Laughton Place

Laughton Place serves as a wonderful base from which to explore the Sussex Downs, from Pevensey Castle, where the Conqueror landed in 1066, to lovely Lewes and the artistic arcadias of Charleston and Glyndebourne. History is all around you at Laughton Place itself too.

The tower was built in 1534 by Sir William Pelham. It is all that survives of a dwelling that existed from the 13th century until the 1950s, when the main house was demolished, leaving only this spectacular moated brick tower behind.

Now Laughton Place is a unique place to stay, with kitchen, lounge, bathroom and two bedrooms set across four floors connected by an ancient brick spiral staircase. The 360^o views across the Downs are a sight to behold, reaffirming just what a wilderness retreat this historic tower is.
