Chatsworth

Chatsworth, home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, is set in the heart of the Peak District in Derbyshire, on the banks of the river Derwent.

The house is renowned for the quality of its art, landscape and hospitality. Home of the Cavendish family since the 1550s, it has evolved through the centuries to reflect the tastes, passions and interests of succeeding generations. Today Chatsworth contains works of art that span 4,000 years, from ancient Roman and Egyptian sculpture, and masterpieces by Rembrandt, Reynolds and Veronese, to work by outstanding modern artists, including Lucian Freud, Edmund de Waal and David Nash. There are over 30 rooms to explore, from the magnificent Painted Hall, regal State Rooms, restored Sketch Galleries and beautiful Sculpture Gallery.

The 105 acre garden is the product of nearly 500 years of careful cultivation. Although some points of interest have been replaced to make way for new fashions, the garden retains many early features, including the Canal Pond, 300 year-old Cascade and 1st Duke's Greenhouse. Visitors can also enjoy the Maze, the Rockery and the Rose, Cottage and Kitchen Gardens, as well as over five miles of walks with rare trees, shrubs, streams and ponds to discover. Younger visitors can also enjoy the farmyard and adventure playground, which has been a favourite day out for children of all ages since 1973.

Throughout the year we host a number of special events including the horse trials, country fair and Christmas market; and from November the house is transformed for Christmas. In addition to our busy events programme, each year we host a number of special exhibitions which are included with admission.

Furthermore, with a wide range of holiday cottages, hotels, shops and restaurants, including our award-winning estate farm shop, visitors can really make the most of their time with us.
